Gold was found in Juneau in 1880 and in Douglas in 1881.
Soon there were steamboats, like the Laurie Ellen, connecting the two neighboring, but rival communities. |
From the 1880's till the autumn of 1935, when the Douglas
Bridge opened to traffic, these steamboats were an everyday sight (all year-round)
operating increasingly busy schedules to meet the needs of the area's
growing population. |
Come on aboard the Laurie Ellen. Tickets are available on any Princess Cruise ship, at the Mount Roberts Tram or by calling us at (907) 723-0372. |
